"Focusing on the Chicago Children's Museum"
Tuesday, May 6
The Chicago Children’s Museum, currently located at Navy Pier, is pursuing plans to relocate from its current location at Navy Pier and has formally asked the city for approval to build a $100 million facility in Grant Park.
This proposal has generated considerable controversy and heated debate between proponents and opponents of the plan. Supporters argue that the proposed new location is an ideal site to serve families and children from throughout the city and assert that the project will not adversely impact the character of Grant Park. Opponents respond that the Grant Park location is inappropriate and would violate long-standing state Supreme Court rulings that restrict such construction in the park.
As the Children’s Museum relocation proposal moves toward consideration by the city’s Plan Commission in May and possible subsequent action by the City Council, the ULC Public Affairs Committee is pleased to present a forum featuring two of the principals involved in this vital discussion:
- Jennifer Farrington, President & CEO, Chicago Children’s Museum
- Alderman Brendan Reilly (42nd Ward).
