As part of its long-standing commitment to civic leadership and community affairs, the Public Affairs Committee of the Union League Club of Chicago is proud to host a current affairs forum: "Breakfast@65West." Held at the Union League Club of Chicago, this series of breakfast meetings features opinion leaders and policy experts from around Chicago and around the country addressing a broad range of issues in a lively format.

Breakfast@65West events begin with a buffet breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by the program at 8:00 and adjournment no later than 9:30.  The cost is $20 per person, which is payable at the door by cash, credit card, or check made out to "Union League Club of Chicago."

For our next program on Dec. 2, we are pleased to present a special program featuring Dr. Martin Marty.

Historian, writer, editor, professor, pastor – Dr. Martin Marty is all of these and more. Now retired after a distinguished 35-year career on the faculty of the University of Chicago Divinity School, this scholar has received countless honors and awards for his insights into theology, history and faith in America’s public life. Bill Moyers has described him as “the most influential interpreter of religion in America.”

We proudly welcome Dr. Marty to share his thoughts on the deeper significance of the election of Barack Obama as our nation’s first African-American President. What does this election mean to our nation and its citizens? What are its lessons regarding the role of faith in our political system? What do 2008 and the coming Obama Administration signify in terms of our ongoing efforts to fulfill our founders’ quest for “a more perfect union”?
